Madeley Centre - A case for redevelopment?
Madeley Centre was born out of the optimistic 60s but now looks decidedly shabby as a result of neglect, and a changed perspective of what constitutes good architecture. With hindsight it is obvious that many of the buildings that were sacrificed for the brave new world should have been either saved or converted (see page 4 for what we lost).
It has to be remembered that Madeley Centre is a district centre supposedly catering for the shopping and social needs of all Woodside, Sutton Hill and Madeley about 20,000 people in all. Compare this with Bridgnorth with a population of 11,700 and the shopping and social facilities that their centre has to offer residents.
You seem to think so ...
In one day nearly 800 residents signed a petition calling for Madeley Centre to be redeveloped. Madeley people need hope, hope that the years of neglect will be reversed. The Madeley Centre NEAT Group have contacted the Parish Council with a view to organising a Regeneration Group for Madeley Centre.
