Woodside Regeneration

For some time, Woodside residents have been asking the Council to look at ways of improving their Estate. In response the Council has made the commitment to improve Woodside a priority.

Residents might be wondering what has been happening since the Council gave that commitment. Although everything might seem to have gone very quiet, the Council is working ‘behind the scenes’ to try and make a special case for Woodside to get the money that we need.

In the meantime, some positive things have been happening on the Estate. Woodside schools are celebrating because they are now in the top 10% of schools in the country and they have all gained the national Investors in People award. The Woodside allotments are so successful that there is now a waiting list and the Woodside Family Groups Project is going from strength to strength and is really helping residents of all age groups develop their potential. All of these good news items have appeared in the Autumn edition of Insight which is available through the recently opened Project Link Office.

The Project Link Office opened at 42 Wilton Court in September. The Council realises that residents will want to keep up to date with the regeneration process and the Project Link Office is open to make sure that the most up to date information is always available. However, the office is also open to take enquiries or comments from residents about the whole range of services provided by both the Council and the Wrekin Housing Trust. Link Office opening hours are:

Monday – Friday 9am – 11.30am and 2.30pm – 4.30pm
Staff can be contacted on 01952 588886.

News From Sutton Hill

The Chairman of Sutton Hill Residents Association, Chris Irish writes:

The last residents’ meeting was well attended and we had the Police and our Telford & Wrekin Councillors in attendance with 30+ residents. The school, including the foreground car park, and the community centre were the main points of discussion. There was disappointment that the school was not ready to open on time and concern at the amount of traffic which might be using the new car park; the amount of mud, dust and general disruption being caused during its construction. We were notified of a further delay in the completion of the community centre – this further disappointed residents as the scheme had already taken 13 months. Rumours that it was to be sold or groups forced to manage the centre were denied.

There was also a report from Keith Whitton updating on Madeley Challenge.

Neighbourhood Watch

Having sent a letter to PC Lambert, our beat manager, regarding the lack of information or any recent meetings, I received a reply from Chief Inspector P Robinson informing me that Watch co-ordinators were unhappy with Malinsgate but would see improvements. However, it would take time and funding.

Within the next few weeks regular ‘drop in surgeries’ will be starting at the Link Office. On each Friday afternoon, staff from the Council and Wrekin Housing Trust will be available for residents to come in and discuss any concerns or problems that they have with a range of services. These will include: refuse; fly tipping; litter; grass cutting; shrub bed maintenance; trees; street lighting; road and footpath repairs; abandoned vehicles; pest control and stray dogs. We will be announcing the start of these special ‘surgeries’ in the very near future. In the meantime, anyone with general enquiries should call 01952 617171 (for help with environmental maintenance issues) or 01952 524524 (for help with issues about highway maintenance or street lighting).

Consultation with residents about the way forward for Woodside has not started yet. However, so that everyone will have a chance to have their say, there will be four residents groups to start with, covering the North, South, West and Centre of the Estate. Although the consultation process has not yet started, any resident who would like to find out more about how they can get involved should call the Link Office on 01952 588886.

I would also like to say that the feedback from the public has been very encouraging.
