Page 1 Provision for older people throughout the area
|
The next few years should provide some exciting new challenges in service provision for older people in Woodside, Madeley and Sutton Hill. The Neighbourhood Action Team is determined to represent the views of the elderly and those with disability during these times of change and uncertainty.
The demolition of Wilton Court on Woodside estate has caused much distress to residents, but we are hopeful that there will be improved provision for the elderly on the estate in the future.\Transport concerns on the estates, and in particular Sutton Hill, are an ongoing concern. Access to the shops and recreational facilities is not easy for the elderly and those with a disability. The Neighbourhood Action Team, in partnership with Age Concern, are sending a delegate to the National Transport Conference in London to look at how other areas take account of the social needs of people in their transport systems. Transport is not just about profit for Arriva!
Health and social provision for older people are generally good, although waiting for a piece of equipment which you know will make a difference to your life can be very frustrating. There is a shortage of wheelchairs and other mobility aids, so if anyone has equipment they are not using please return it so someone else can benefit. (Just call Community Loan Stores 603838).

| There are lots of activities and events at different venues throughout the area. Most of these are organised and run by volunteers. Age Concern has two Day Centres in the area which both meet once a week. These are primarily for those housebound elderly who are unable to access transport themselves.
