Your Community Orchard...
at Bartlett Gardens has received a grant of £5,000 from Barclays Sitesavers. This money is being used to create a centrepiece for the orchard, consisting of a central path leading to a loop around two beds, thereby creating the outline of an apple tree. Both beds will be planted with bulbs and flowers, using some of the Barclays Sitesvers money, and will be used in educational projects with local schoolchildren. One bed is raised, and the other is in a dip, so each will have a different theme. On the raised bed children from the Sir Alexander Fleming School will be involved in designing about 30 separate mosaics, again financed through the Barclays Sitesavers grant. As part of the project two members of staff from the Madeley branch of Barclays Bank spent a morning helping to clear rubbish from the site, and they will also be invloved in tree-planting at a later date.
