Gill Green

A member of Madeley Parish Council since 1999, I enjoy attending meetings, notably on finance and the environment. The Parish Council works in partnership with outside agencies to bring additional funding into the area. Much can be gained by this approach with Bartlett Gardens now being planted up with orchard trees, the Town Green off Russell Road protected from future development thanks to a Parish-led campaign and the Parish is leading a major funding application for a project which will reveal our industrial past around the Lee Dingle bridge. We shall doubtless see great changes to Madeley Centre over the next 3 – 4 years and yet alongside the bricks and mortar I hope that we can continue to play our part in building and keeping alive that community spirit which is still very strong here.

I strongly support the Parish’s links with local schools in guiding young people on environmental issues and encourage any work to improve youth service provision. The devil makes work for idle hands or something like that!

The Parish has also led campaigns to encourage our most senior citizens to claim the benefits to which they are entitled and I shall continue, having previous experience of working in Madeley Citizen’s Advice Bureau, to try and ensure that our most vulnerable and elderly residents are not forgotten.

Working at grass roots level can certainly play a great part in making Madeley Parish a better place to live and work. There is always so much more to do!

Telford Trail 3 to be held on ‘National Walking Day’ Sunday 17th September 2006

The Telford Trail is a 14 mile loop walk. Participants may choose to walk shorter sections or try the guided Town Park stroll of 40 – 60 minutes for the young or less able.

Try the challenge! You can enter either simply for pleasure or as a means of raising money for a charity of your choice or both!

Millets, the Outdoors Store, are offering a FREE PAIR of Peter Storm SKIDAW Walking Boots (value £59.99p) for the person raising the most sponsorship money.

If you are interested in entering this event, please contact me for further details and entry forms:

Madeley Community Orchard going from strength to strength

This community project has already become a real asset to local people and this is before the fruit trees have matured. There are regular working days for volunteers every Wednesday from 2pm as well as the seven comunity events since the beginning of '05. It has already featured on BBC news and is soon to be included in a new series documenting Rural Britain.
If you are interested in contributing to this evolving project please ring Pat McCarthy on: 01952 278001
