National Archaeology Day 2006

NAD 2006 was a great success with over 700 people visiting during the course of the day including more children than in previous years. The weather just about held and the Green rang to the shouts of a battalion of small (very small) Roman soldiers being put through their paces before charging an impertinent native who was trying to provoke them.

There was the usual popular range of activities and, thanks to the hard work of local helpers, some fantastic ancient recipes to try.

Many of these recipes are now posted on the Living History page of the Madeley Parish Council website at www.madeleyparishcouncil.gov.uk

Creative Change is working on a two-year marketing campaign for the RNID, the largest charity working to change the world for deaf and hard of hearing people. The campaign, called Breaking the Sound Barrier, is aimed at helping the estimated 4 million people in the UK who are losing their hearing but not doing anything about it.

To help these people the RNID has devised a clinically approved, over-the-phone sound check that is quick, convenient and can be taken from the comfort of someone’s own home.

The check gives an immediate diagnosis as to whether a caller’s hearing is within the normal range or whether they need to seek help from their GP.

Madeley Sports - a club on the up

Madeley Sports, is Telford’s only Charter Standard Community Club – an award which it’s members are justifiably proud. The club is now in it’s 26th year having been formed in 1980. A founder member of the Shropshire Girl’s League and Shropshire U21’s League , the club also participates in leagues for Boys (Telford Junior League) and Under 18’s (Shropshire Minor League).

The club continues to grow and now has 20 teams from 5 to 21 years of age, covering boys, girls and it’s latest addition an Ability counts section for players with a variety of disabilities, the first of it’s kind in Shropshire. The U12 and U16 Ability counts squad have taken part in FA Regional tournaments.

The club is looking to continue to expand and is looking for individuals who want to participate in a well structured club with a progressive agenda. We are also looking for players across a number of age groups, including U8 to U13 Boys Teams, U10 to U14 Girls Teams. Our development squad takes players from 5 years of age and above.

We also wish to take this opportunity to thank Madeley Parish Council for their support for the club, with the assistance provided the club was able to secure a football foundation grant running to 2008.

For further details please contact the club secretary Mr Will Bowen: 01952 526 741 or check out www.Madeleysports.co.uk.
