Woodside News

In each issue of Madeley Matters we will be spotlighting one of the groups who use Park Lane Centre. The first spotlight falls on the …

Photography Project

The Photography Project moved from the old Community Centre into Park Lane Centre in April. The group has been running since January 2005 and was originally set up with a grant from AimHigher. The grant, together with funding from the CITRUS project (University of Wolverhampton) provided funding for training and the original members of the group worked with a professional photographer to improve their knowledge and skills. Some of the group members come from the Social Education Centre, which is based at TCAT.

The group holds regular exhibitions, based around particular subjects that they have chosen. This allows group members to interpret the subject and always results in a lively and interesting exhibition.

The group meet every Monday at Park Lane Centre from 10am – 12noon. New members are always welcome and help will be given to anyone who is new to digital photography. The only cost involved is purchasing your own paper for printing. For further information contact Jackie Mount on (01952) 410429.

Celebration of Woodside 2006

The 2006 Celebration of Woodside took place on Saturday 17th June and saw over 1000 local residents celebrate the positive aspects of living on Woodside.

Local groups promoted their services as well as other agencies that work in the area – TCAT, Children’s Services and Environmental Maintenance.

There was a full programme of activities to keep residents entertained, including a Bavarian Oompa band, Chinese Lion Dancers, an Eastern European band and ju-jitsu demonstrations. Face painting, balloon modelling and a clown kept the young people entertained.

The Park Lane Centre offered tours to those residents and workers that had not previously had an opportunity to look around. The Frogmeadow café was open offering refreshments on a warm day.

The weather remained fine during the day, ensuring that Celebration could be fully enjoyed by all those that attended. The feedback to the event was very positive, setting the benchmark for future years.
