PC Berwyn Pratt, Police Officer for Woodside ...

Drugs are a serious issue on Woodside, and since March 2006 we have executed 12 drug warrants in the locality, which is significant, since they are a response to information given by the public of Woodside.

This problem can only be combated by working closely with members of the public and building up trust. People need to know that if information is given, it will be acted upon.

Drugs are very accessible to all vulnerable groups within society, but especially children. I believe that there is a close correlation between the accessibility of drugs and the amount of anti-social behaviour people are subjected to within the estate.

An example of a recent and increasing anti-social craze is the reckless driving of cheap mini motos / mopeds and quad bikes.

Again, through the public ringing in and making us aware of who are riding these bikes and where, we have seized and confiscated at least 20 motor bikes and mini moto’s in South Telford in the past 4 months.

Let your old computers help others...

Following the upgrade of the Parish Computers the old models have now been donated to Young Minds & Mentors. This is an organisation which relies on various donations to aid young people. The computers are refurbished with educational software so that they can be passed on to these children.

This is the response we received after the donation:

Hi Julie,
Could I please forward my most sincere thanks to you all for the extremely kind donation of the computers and associated equipment.
The 3 computers have been loaded with various educational software and are now assisting 3 families and a total of 9 young people. The reaction when they received the computers was amazing and certainly brought a lump to my throat.
I thought it was appropriate to remain within the spirit of the donation and have placed them with families that are within the boundaries of Madeley Parish Council, I know this was not a pre-requisite but it just felt right.
Thank you for your kind donation, I can assure you they are already made a great difference to young people.
Kind Regards, John Franklyn
