National Year of Reading

The National “join your library” promotion has now begun. Everyone who joins the library during ’08 will receive a welcome pack. The promotion will be highlighted in the national press and a joiner form will appear in the Daily Mirror to encourage non-library members to visit their library and get a ticket.

Throughout the year there will be themed displays, promotions and events so watch this space!

On Saturday 12 July, Severn Hospice will be running the first ever Midnight Walk in the county.

This exciting event is open to all women who want to take part in a sponsored walk around Madeley and surrounding areas, starting at midnight.

The walk will be carefully marshalled to ensure a safe environment and will be a great opportunity to raise funds for this important local charity while enjoying a fantastic urban walk.

Between 2003 and 2007, 68 people from Madeley were referred to the Hospice, which offers care and support to local people with terminal and life-limiting illnesses.

All services are provided free of charge but the Hospice relies on public fundraising for two thirds of its income.

For every £1 raised in sponsorship on the Midnight Walk, 92p will go directly to patient care so every penny raised will make a real difference.

To get an entry form for the walk, email: path@severnhospice.org.uk or telephone the fundraising team on 01952 221 351.
