Woodside News 1

West 2 Scheme progress

For the last 7 years the Warrensway general store has been run very successfully by Mr & Mrs Bhakar. They offer Woodside residents a friendly and efficient local shopping service and have also introduced extra services to meet local demand such as a Pay Zone and Cash Point facility.

Now, as part of the improvement works being carried out by the Woodside Regeneration Project in Warrensway, a new shop building is being constructed; this is in response to feedback from consultation with local residents who all highly value this local store and the good service they receive.

Mr & Mrs Bhakar are looking forward to moving into their new shop in August, when the old store will be demolished. They will be able to offer local residents a wider range of goods including more fresh foods. The new shop will be open from 6.45am-6.30pm Monday-Friday, 7.30am-6.30pm Saturday and 8am-1.00pm Sunday.

The Woodside Story

A book chronicling the history of Woodside has proved a great success and has been reprinted. The Woodside Story, put together by a group of residents and the Madeley Living History Project, provides a history of the local area and profiles the changing face of Woodside to the present day. It costs just £1 and can be purchased from the Park Lane Centre and Jubilee House.

Celebration of Woodside

The weather forecast for Saturday 21st June was gloomy and everyone preparing for the Celebration of Woodside was wondering who would want to come out on such a miserable day. But they should have known that a downpour would not stop the residents of Woodside from enjoying themselves.

here was a steady flow (no pun intended) of visitors to the Park Lane Centre from 10am until the event closed at 3pm. Great Oak Hall and Willow Room were filled with stalls, with entertainment taking place in the reception area and Family Room. Frogmeadow Café was popular throughout the day as visitors took time out from browsing the stalls. All stallholders reported good trade and the event closed with the drawing of the Severn Hospice, Hope House and Joseph Franks Trust raffle.

Woodside’s Got Talent and Family Disco

Following the Celebration of Woodside a large audience enjoyed a showcase of home grown talent in the form of singers and dancers, including a karate routine to music! The judges had a difficult task to short-list the performers down to three acts, and then it was over to the audience to pick the overall winners and place the other acts. A prize of a music gift card was presented to each placed act together with a certificate to record their success.

After the show, the disco took over, with non stop dancing and a very unusual version of YMCA. The day ended at 7pm when the last dancers made their exhausted way home.

New play area – adjacent to Westbourne

Telford & Wrekin Council has recently completed the refurbishment of one of the play areas in Woodside. The refurbished site – between Westbourne and Abraham Darby School – has proved to be very popular and is being enjoyed by a wide range of young people.
