Junior Football

2007/8 saw Sir Alexander Fleming School and Madeley Sports Football form a partnership which has enabled Madeley Sports FC to provide coaches for the school's football team.

In the first year the school entered the Telford Schools league both at Year 5 and 6 and years 3 and 4. The years 3 and 4 team as pictured above won their league group and semi finals without losing a game. The final was played at AFC Telford and was watched by parents and players from all ages within the school and Madeley Sports FC. The team produced some great football against a really hard team but Sir Alexander Fleming with their skill, determination and massive support won the game 3-1 and became the Years 3 and 4 champions of Telford.

Will Bowen, Team Manager, says “Richard and I are over the moon for the players – they have worked hard both individually and as a team, Sir Alexander Fleming school staff are brilliant and every time we got back to school on match days we were met with members of the cleaning staff, caretaker and teachers asking about how we got on.

They really paid an interest which certainly inspired the players. Richard and I would like to thank Mrs Ann Shaw for arranging the partnership and Mr Noel Hitch for his work with the players prior to our involvement, Will Bowen JNR, Paul Richardson and Noel Hitch for refereeing matches and all the staff at Sir Alexander Fleming for their wonderful support, especially Mrs Cousins the Headteacher”.

Madeley ColtsMadeley Sports has just celebrated its 28th Season operating Junior Football in the South Telford area.

The club has run 27 teams in four leagues, operating from U5 to 1st Team men’s and a full complement of girls’ teams. Madeley Sports has received confirmation of its renewal of both FA Charter Standard Community status and Ability Counts award. The awards recognise the work undertaken within the local community, which include working with both Sir Alexander Fleming and St Mary’s Junior schools to provide a structured school/clubs link and providing Shropshire’s only Disability Football club operating from TCAT’s Superdome facility.

On the field success has resulted in 4 cup winning teams, U10 Girls League Cup winners, U12 and U14 Boys Management Cup Winners and the Senior team winning the Pearce Latham Cup at the first time of asking. The club’s provision of opportunities for young people to develop has seen two of our young leaders being nominated to attend the FA National Camp in Nottingham from the 14th July.

The club has plans to continue its growth and development in 2008/09 with further expansion of its younger age groups and its first expansion into senior female football. The Club has been accepted to operate a team in the Shropshire County Women’s League. As always the club is heavily reliant on volunteers and we welcome applications of interest to the Chairman or Secretary Will (Club Secretary) on 01952 526741.

See www.madeleysports.co.uk for more details. Players interested in joining a club with high standards of coaching and development are also welcome.

Madeley Community Orchard continues to progress...

Since the orchard received over £114,000 in grants it has acquired a part-time manager, Glenys Evans. She has overseen the installation of a composting toilet suitable for the disabled; extended and relaid footpaths that are again more accessible to people with mobility disabilities and extended community involvement with five new organically gardened plots managed by local schools and family groups.
